Airshipwrights
An Airshipwright is any company that engages in the production of Airships. These companies range from small scale craft companies that produce custom personal airships to some of the largest companies in the entire Corsian Empire, who produce gigantic merchant ships.
There are competitively few companies that produce airships in Corsia due to the high costs and expertise involved in the endeavour. For companies that can't afford to construct their own airshipwright facility, the use of loanable facilities must be acquired, meaning that due to demand these facilities are almost constantly working on ships.
Airship Manufacturers employ many workers, from unskilled labourers to haul materials, through skilled workers who produce the ships, up to college or university educated engineers who design new machines.
Imperial Skysailing
Founded in 1296 by airship pioneer Waylength Grastus, Imperial Skysailing is the oldest airship manufacturing company in existence, and the company's control remains in the Grastus family. They were known originally for innovation, but are now more renowned for their ability to produce high quality, if unimaginative, airships. Imperial skysailing does a lot of work for many major companies, and is based out of Irongate. Most notably, the company has produced all large CAF Airforce ships, inventing and producing all lines of ships there since the company was founded. In addition, Imperial Skysailing has constructed many medium sized merchant airships, and is especially expert at creating economical passenger airships.
Ram Machine Company
''See also: [Ram Machine Company]'' Ram Machine Company is a large company with many branches and divisions based in Fenton (city) | Fenton. Among its many businesses it also creates merchant freighters, generally for internal company work. However it has produced many such airships as the company manages a great deal of shipping. Ram also produces occasional airships for the CAF, and has the honour of being responsible for building the [Corsia (Airship) | CAF Corsia], the largest military airship ever built.
McWilliamson & Peters Company
This manufacturing company is the largest naval manufacturing company in the Corsian Empire, but to keep the company updated it has begun building airships as well. Owning the newest airshipwright facilities and attracting many fresh engineers has helped McWilliamson & Peters have a boost in the market, and they have found their niche producing the largest merchant ships in existence; the company is responsible for building the largest airship ever built: the [Morning Star (Airship) | Morning Star]. In addition, the company produces the experimental chemical explosion propelled "rocket craft" used by the CAF.
Rose Airships
Rose Airships competes heavily with Grigori & Sons for the personal and smaller scale passenger markets. Rose Airships is the older of the two, founded in 1229, and focuses on opulence and class in their designs. Rose Airships are synonymous with plush seating, wooden panelled interiors, and high quality construction. However their high prices and generally slow speeds make them less attractive to the budget owner.
An interesting side-route Rose has opened up are floating shops and other service centres. Clearly taking heed from the success of Vaeles, Rose has produced a handful of very large "floating buildings" which are operated in various ways by their owners. These business are targeted at higher end customers due to the necessity for anyone arriving to have done so on a private airship. Two of the more famous/infamous of these ships are the floating exotic market ''Merriweather Market'' and the flying cabaret ''The Red Cloud''.
Grigori & Sons
Founded in 1231 Grigori & Sons prides itself on being the main competitor to Rose for the personal and small scale passenger markets. The company deliberately builds their ships to be almost the polar opposite of Rose's, with bare, shiny metal cabins and sleek profiles, Grigori ships are also some of the fastest available. Grigori has a proportionally large team of engineers and has been at the forefront of some major airship technology breakthroughs. In any event they are always very quick to utilise new technology as soon as it is available. However, Grigori ships are somewhat notorious for breaking down and are difficult to repair due to their complex systems, and these systems cause them to be considered difficult to handle.
Hayson Aeronautics
Originally a subsidiary skeleton company under Imperial Skysailing, Hayson Aeronautics eventually became a real company after the work it was doing became too dissimilar to the regular work done at Imperial Skysailing. Hayson has always been the company most preoccupied with quality and comfort, as well as security. A Hayson airship is generally regarded as the best available, but can cost hundreds of thousands of valens. Hayson produces personal airships for the reigning Emperor, and rarely work for contracts outside the Irongate high society.
Bayside Aeroworks
A smaller craft manufacturer from Rathsos, Bayside produce heavy duty small freighters and fast personal airships. The company faced scrutiny when it was realised that many mercenaries and bounty hunter type characters used their ships. While Bayside claims no knowledge of this apparent preference, their ships are clearly built to be easily modified and remain functional in extreme circumstances. A Bayside ship "Silver Shot" won the 1327 Annual Fenton Airship Races | Fenton airship race, especially excelling in sprints where it almost beat the world record.
Eagle Airships
Another small craft company, Eagle Airships produce spacious and lightweight airships with simple controls and frames. They are very popular with people who prefer to customise their airship but who know little about airship engineering, and don't want to design their own airship from scratch. Their airships are know for their responsive handling, made possible by a unique method of steering where a uni-directional rudder is placed at the front of the ship. Eagle airships are also very fast for their size, as the company often opts to replace backup devices with heavier engines - which in turns leads to allegations of unsafe practise.
Oak Airways
The smallest Airship manufacturer in Corsia, Oak Airways ships are seldom seen at all and the company itself is reputed to be difficult to track down. This is due in part to the small size of it, and also because the engineers involved move cities frequently. Oak Airships are known to be of high quality and are generally very well rounded. There is little more to be said about their properties, as all Oak airships are unique. Oak has no catalogue of standard designs and only produces custom airships for customers who know what they want. As such they are expensive and hard to acquire, but for customers who know exactly what they want, Oak will always provide.
Otteman Airship Company
Founded in 1330, as a subsidiary of Otteman Transport Company, the Otteman Airship Company specializes in small-scale personal multi-passenger aircraft. Though this company is technically in the airship market, their products are often slightly overpriced and overlooked for their cheaper counterparts. The company’s main purpose as a subsidiary of OTC is to serve as a governing body for regulations regarding the construction and sale of commercial airships under the Corsian government. None of the airships produced by OTC are spectacularly extraordinary in any way, but they still seem to be regularly found in use as ferries, gondolas, and government-issued transport.
